Latest Cross Country News : 2016 / 2017 season

From Arthur Daley, CC League Secretary, 158 Fieldcourt Gardens, Quedgeley, Gloucester, GL2 4UA. Email :
Dear Cross Country Secretary,

Following the completion of the 2015/16 season I thank the promoting clubs Ė Bourton Road Runners, Malvern Joggers, Gloucester AC , and Kenilworth Runners Ė for their help in ensuring that the Gloucestershire Cross Country Leagueís four fixtures have been run smoothly. I also thank all of the officials who have donated their time so effectively.

Iím making arrangements for next season now and invite clubs to consider promoting a league event and to contact me expressing a preference for dates as early as possible and at least by April 31st.

Gloucestershire AAA will cover reasonable costs for hire of changing rooms and of providing first aid (usually 100% of both) and promoting clubs may keep any profit from the sale of refreshments. Iím keen to have races over new venues; meetings do not have to be within Gloucestershire and if youíve not promoted a race before Iíll be happy to review your course with you.

Venues need to be able to provide:

  • courses at the appropriate distances for each age group (This usually involves a time table starting at around 11:45/12:00 with the last raceís last runner finishing around 15:45) (The final meeting will need a gap for presentation of Young Athleteís medals.)
  • car parking for up to 200 cars- this can include surrounding roads. (We can get between 250- 400 cars but many young athletes have left before the seniors arrive.)
  • If possible, refreshments although this could be a catering van.
  • Preferable, though not essential, changing and showers

The likely dates, corresponding to 2015/16 seasonís dates are:
Oct 15th 2016     Nov 5th 2016     Dec 17th 2016     Feb 18th 2017
The date for Gloucestershire AAA CC Championships is the recommended date of 7th Jan 2015 and Gloucestershire clubs are invited to offer to host it. As this is a smaller event, in terms of numbers, it would be good if one of the clubs who have not recently promoted a meeting but whose athletes enter the championships offered to promote this.
I thank FODAC for hosting this yearís event.
Yours in sport,
Arthur Daley
Gloucestershire Cross Country Secretary
